While there are many internet pages on keeping tarantulas, there are only very view pages on tarantulas in the wild. So on these pages i want to show you how some of the most beautiful tarantulas live in the wild.

I hope you understand that putting these pages together is a lot of work, so i will start with the Brachypelma species that i have seen in the wild. From there i will expand the site to include various genera that are found together with the various Brachypelma species in the same habitat.

The genus Brachypelma

The genus Brachypelma was erected in 1891 by the French arachnologist Eugène Simon (April 30, 1848 - November 17, 1924) to house the species Brachypelma emilia (untill this time the spider was described as Mygale emilia.) From there on there was a lot of confusion on whether or not the genus was valid. Pocock expanded the genus Brachypelma in 1903 with 4 species that he transferred from the genus Eurypelma: B. albicepsB. pallidumB. smithiand B. vagans. At present the genus Brachypelma includes 8 species from Mexico
