My name is Eddy Hijmensen, I’m a 50 year old mechanical engineer. I spend my day designing sprinklersystems for fire protection. Over 25 years ago i started keeping tarantulas. Not long after that i also started breeding various tarantula species. My primary interest was in the genus Brachypelma.
In 2006 i went out into the field to search for tarantulas. living in Holland this means that i have to travel far to find the first tarantulas. Together with Chris and Bo Sainsbury the choice was made to go to Malaysia. the trip was a great success! the next year we (Chris, Bo and myself) searched in Sulawesi.
In 2008 i changed from Asia to the Americas. A trip from Mexico (Yucatan), Belize, Guatemala and finally Honduras made me fall in love with this region! So after 5 more trips to Mexico i still have only seen a tip of the iceberg of the tarantula fauna that is found here.
